After a journalist was accidentally included in a Signal group chat about U.S. military plans to attack Syria, our Secretary of Defense reassured everyone in the chat:

“We are currently clean on OPSEC.”

So I made it a T-shirt.

The infamous quote

Years ago, when the NSA and GCHQ were caught breaking SSL encryption to spy on internal Google and Yahoo traffic, my friend Phil had the idea to turn one of the leaked diagrams into a T-shirt. Proceeds went to the ACLU and EFF.

This week, when it came out that several high-ranking officials were casually sharing classified war plans in a Signal group (with an editor for The Atlantic accidentally included), I remembered Phil’s project.

So, I bought wearecurrentlycleanonopsec.com, spun up a fake green-screen OPSEC scanner with Claude, made graphics in Figma, and launched a merch line on Teespring. Start to finish: a few hours.

I believe humor can be a powerful way to spotlight serious issues and I’m astounded at the speed at which a product can be created and marketed nowadays. There’s something exciting about chasing the moment and building products around it. I’m having fun exploring that.
